Netherlands’ Dakota create lacksadaisical dream-pop with just enough of an edge to give the genre some oft missing friction. What I like most about Dakota’s sound is that every note doesn’t sound like it was blown off the tip of a dandelion, floating haplessly through the world without a care. Amidst the haze of the psychedelia and atmospheric composition are lyrics, melodies, and creative rhythms that ground the piece. Oh, and they know their way around a chorus. Dakota stand head and shoulders above the much of the dream-pop world.
“Icon” is the first single from Dakota’s new EP, Leda. If you dig what you hear (and you know you do), check out the whole enchilada on Spotify. Their sound has just landed in the US from Amsterdam. Prep yourself for a swift and thorough soundwave takeover.
