It’s Cinco de Mayo and there was a miscommunication and now I’m super late in posting this post. But Milk Crate #39! Am I right?
Trust me though, it was worth the wait. Especially because I’m going to give y’all a bonus song.
I KNOW, RIGHT???
Unfamiliar with Milk Crater? Welcome! Here’s the gist: When you listen to a track on our site, we donate our ad revenue to Direct Relief International. So, to break it down further, when you discover awesome new music, you also help provide life-saving medicine and other goods to those who are less fortunate. New Music + Making the world a better place = Solid Thursday.
1“Something Better” – Audien (Two Friends Remix)
It’s no secret that Eli and Matt (aka Two Friends) are 2 of my favorite producers at the moment. It would only take a brief search of Milk Crater to find the myriad posts about how fantastic their music is. This specific track, however, is quite special. I previously commented on the (potential) rise of CountrEDM— and if Audien’s initial release with Lady Antebellum didn’t convince you that electronic country music could be a thing, the Two Friends remix should certainly solidify it. Once again, Two Friends have proven why they are everyone’s best friends.
2“Burnin Up” – Zach Alwin
Have you ever wondered what it would sound like if a band like Brand New fused with a band like A-ha? Well, regardless of whether you did or not, here you are. Zach Alwin’s track “Burnin’ Up” should be everyone’s not-so-guilty pleasure. While it may be the definition of pop on the surface, the lyrics are clever and enticing. Don’t take my word for it though. Give it a listen and do your best not to dance along. Also, ducks.
3“Heroes” – Da Tweekaz & Darren Styles
Ok. I know this is going to be pretty intense for some folks, but just hear me out. If you’ve ever wanted to sob for no reason/be super pumped to go do anything, then this is the video for you. While hardstyle might be tough to digest right out of the gate, it’s actually pretty badass. I’ve been a fan of Darren Styles for a bit now, and I can say with confidence that this is one of the best tracks he’s ever released. If any song ever made me want to conquer the world, it would be this one.
4“Cut Down the Moon” – Jason P Krug
I know that last one was a lot, so I’m giving you the opportunity to come down a bit. This unbelievably beautiful song employs pretty much every acoustic instrument you can think of, plus Jason P Krug’s raw, yet melodic, voice. “Cut Down the Moon” does an incredible job balancing its energy; going from slow and deliberate to strong and passionate and back in the blink of an eye. Very excited about future releases from JPK.
5“Lose It” – Oh Wonder (TF Marz Remix)
Genre: Future Chill
We’ve gone on quite the journey so far, eh? EDM to Hardstyle to Folk. Golly. Lucky for you, I have this friend named TF Marz who specializes in Future Chill (insert other modifiers here) house, and who is pretty damn good at it. He’s an up-and-comer, but every single track of his that I have heard knocks it out of the park. This track, specifically, is perfect for starting an epic night out with your friends. You can catch TF Marz as “Smokestacks” at Lightning in a Bottle.
6“Stay Alive” – José González (Gareth Emery Remix)
This is basically a bonus. I mentioned this song in the very first article I ever wrote for Milk Crater, but nothing will occur that will change how impactful it is. I don’t even know what else to say, so I guess I’ll let this track speak for itself.
Like what you hear? Maybe even just one song? Share with your friends! The more folks who listen, the more we get to donate!
