I was raised on alt-rock. Somewhere along this little journey called life I fell off the alt-rock bandwagon and found myself happily in the lap of folk acts like Damien Rice, Bright Eyes, and Sufjan Stevens. Sure, I dabbled in alt-rock, hip-hop, electronic, soul, jazz, etc., but nothing grabbed me the way a quiet voice laid over a delicate fingerpicking lick did. I spent hours holed up in my room listening to stories of life’s pains, romance, and subdued aspirations.
Recently, the time’s have been a changin (yes…I know that I used a Dylan reference to say I’m not listening to as much folk music.). Bands like Catfish and the Bottlemen and The Bohicas came roaring onto the scene, electrifying my insides with gritty songwriting and an unbridled desire to be as loud as possible. Alt-rock is back. The Hunna’s are here to hammer that point in.
We got a chance to catch up with the quickly rising stars of the alt-rock scene and pick their brain about their process, parties on yachts, and what’s in store for us next.
When you listen to their new song “You & Me” with us on Milk Crater, we donate to charity. Listen with us and help save lives at the same time. Not a bad deal, eh? Keep up to date with us on Facebook and Twitter.
MC: Where did the name “The Hunna” come from?
The Hunna: We listen to various different genres, a lot of Rap/Trap and Hip Hop, so we gained influence from that.
MC: When you sit down to pen a new track, what’s the first step?
The Hunna: Probably start with a melody or a few chords then work from there but it can come from anywhere. We never really think about it too much, the process needs to be as natural as possible with real feeling towards an idea.
MC: What’s it like hearing your song on the radio? Does it ever get old?
The Hunna: It’s something that we’re new to so hasn’t got old yet, don’t think it ever will either!
MC: If you could co-write a song with anyone, who would it be? What would the song be called?
The Hunna: Drake – Hunna Bands
MC: You win the lottery. What’s the first thing you do?
The Hunna: Buy a yacht and throw a massive party.
MC: What’s next on the docket for you guys?
The Hunna: Finish recording our debut album then start out second headline UK tour followed up with a North American tour. We’re excited get out there and see our fans again!
